A Sticky Situation: How To Safely Remove Stickers off Your Windshield

Remember the time you had to go through the process of applying for a car sticker to park in your college parking or your kid’s school? The hassle of removing stickers from your windshield is harder than getting one! If you’re stuck in a sticky situation like this, start counting the hours because you’ll be struggling with it for a long time UNLESS you know a few easy hacks. Here are some ideas that might help.

· Window Cleaner

If you’ve been regular with home cleaning, you’d definitely have a bottle of a window cleaner in the house. All you need to do is take the bottle, spray some liquid cleaner on the sticker and let it sit. Wait for the sticker to soak completely. Once it’s wet, chip away at the edges using something fine and sharp. A razor or knife is the best tool for the job. Once the sticker starts coming off, start pulling it at very gently. Spray at it again if you feel the pull is becoming harder. Don’t keep at it if the sticker starts tearing or leaving behind remains of it on the glass.

· Rubbing Alcohol

If the window cleaner at home didn’t do the job, try repeating the process with rubbing alcohol. You might want to wipe off excess window cleaner before applying rubbing alcohol on the sticker, for it to act fast. You might need a sharp object again to scrape it off but make sure to be careful of not leaving scratches on the glass.

· Ice

Have you seen one of those DIY tricks of taking off dried chewing gum from your clothes? They commonly use ice or an ice pack to rub on it so that the adhesive force loosens and it comes off cleanly. Apply the same technique to car stickers. Let the cold pack sit on the sticker for a while before pulling it off. The colder it is, the better the results will be.

· Hair dryer

This trick has often been used to pull off price tags from store-bought items. All you have to do is plug in a hair dryer and start blowing hot hair on the car sticker. Make sure the temperature is set on high heat. The plastic will gradually deform and release the surface of the glass. Pull it off as gently as you can and make sure it’s not leaving behind any remains. If none of these tricks work, it’s best to take your car to an auto glass company in the area.
