Window Care: Tips and Tricks

When you think of car window care, you might think there isn’t much to it. After all, its just glass. As long as you wash it and nothing is broken, you should be good to go. However, just like any other aspect of your vehicle, you need to make sure your windows are regularly looked at to maintain their long-term health and endurance. So, when it comes to car windows, what exactly do you need to check for. We’ll break it down for you.

1. Chips on the Windshield

Checking for chips on the windshield is essential to caring for your car windows. Chips are usually tiny cracks that are caused by small objects, mainly rocks. Initially, chips may not seem like a massive deal to you while driving. They’re quite small, so they don’t affect the appearance of the vehicle and also don’t affect the driver’s vision. However, since chips are small cracks on the windshield, over time, they will spread. If they’re not repaired in time, the entire windshield might need to be replaced, costing you a lot of time and money. Therefore, it’s usually best to visit an auto glass repair shop to have your windshield repaired before the issue exacerbates.

2. Regularly Clean Your Windows

It’s also vital you regularly clean your windshield and car windows. Many things can stick to your windows. These include insects, dirt, bird droppings that stick to the glass. So, whenever you thoroughly clean your car, make sure to wipe the window glass with high-quality glass cleaner and microfibre cleaning fabric.  Both the insides and outsides of the windows must be cleaned.

3. Make Sure Your Wiper Blades are Up to Date

Wiper blades are infamous for damaging or tearing out without any significant cause. Torn wiper blades can also cause scratches on the windshield. These scratches are permanent, and you’ll need to have your windshield replaced, which why you should check on your wiper and have them replaced if there are any issues with them.

4. Keep Your Car in the Shade

Whenever possible, try to keep your windows away for direct sunlight. The heat from the sun will undermine the glass and reduce the window’s lifespan. Crack and chips on the window are also more likely and more rapidly able to spread at higher temperatures, which could cause your car windows additional problems.
